I just turned 30 today! As a 90s kid, I’ve seen rapid changes from getting news on the radio to citizen journalism on new social platforms, from local clubs and friends circles to massive online communities, from VHS tapes to OTT and Spotify, from simple block games to photorealistic graphics-intensive PC and mobile games, and from physically intensive jobs to internet-based jobs and businesses, and from local traditional food to global cuisine.
Everything has changed in the past 30 years.
Technology and science played a crucial role in this fast-paced shift. When I was 8, I read a 50-page book about upcoming technology. At that time, I was fascinated by the idea of real-time video communication with distant friends through the Internet. I read about it and argued about its potential with my school friends, but no one believed me. Today, those same people have created WhatsApp and Facebook groups to do the same thing we argued about twenty years ago.
As a techno-optimist, I’m excited to see the future world and its potential to change how we live. In the last 30 years, I’ve witnessed so much change in our culture and society. This change will accelerate even faster with AI and scientific breakthroughs.
The next 30 years will never be the same as the past. Faster adoption and adaptation to technology are the only survival methods for the coming ages.
